ESPN Coaches Fundraising The ESPN Coaches Fundraising Program is a grassroots magazine fundraising program targeting sports associations and teams across the United States, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Guam. Established in 2000, the program has assisted teams raise funds for travel, equipment, uniforms and more. Through the ESPN Coaches Fundraising Program teams and organizations have raised over $15 million by selling magazine subscriptions.
The ESPN Coaches Fundraising Programis as easy as the players selling a few subscriptions to ESPN The Magazine. Every time a 2-year subscription is sold for $40, the team keeps $30 from that order. 75% of the total sale goes directly to the team. Each $30 raised from every order really adds up. If just 20 players sell fivesubscriptions each, the team will earn $3,000.
It’s a Win-Win situation!
When the team has completed the program, they just return $10 per order with the order forms. It’s that simple.
Coaching Corner: 1 v.1 to Targets
This installment of the Coaching Corner comes from the NSCAA book Soccer Skills and Drills, published by Human Kinetics. It comes from Chapter 6: Tackling. For information on how to order a copy of Soccer Skills and Drills, CLICK HERE.
Purpose: To work on defending in transition and when an attacker has the option to play a teammate as well as dribble past the defender.
Procedure: In a small grid (about 10 by 15 yards), players play 1 v.1, scoring when one player receives a ball from the target on one end and plays a pass to the target on the opposite end. Players always play in the same direction. This game is best played "make it, take it" because this forces defenders to play in transition. Play for one minute before players switch roles.
Coaching Points: The 1 v.1 defensive points are the same as in previous drills. Observe whether defenders are close enough to the attacker to defend the pass but at a safe enough distance to prevent the attacker from taking a touch past them and beating them on the dribble.
