| Stephan, Rosenbaum Named NSCAA Players of the Week for Oct. 28 |
Ella Stephan (Florida State/Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) and Ryan Rosenbaum (SMU/Washington, D.C.) used shots heard ‘round the country to claim NSCAA National Players of the Week for Oct. 28.
Stephen scored on a short-range header to give Florida State its second win ever over perennial power North Carolina, while Rosenbaum became an Internet sensation with his 95-yard goal to propel SMU to an upset victory over Tulsa.
Each week, a male and female player will be selected from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 11 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men’s and women’s intercollegiate matches.
This week features a Friday night doubleheader, with Bucknell (13-4-0) hosting Lafayette (9-5-2) in a battle for the No. 2 spot in the Patriot League standings in an 8 p.m. ET start. It will be followed by a women’s Pac-10 showdown as Southern California (12-5-0) travels to Westwood to face No. 3 UCLA (14-2-1) for a 10 p.m. ET match. On Sunday, No. 2 Portland will face No. 14 Santa Clara in a match starting at 5 p.m. ET.
Ella Stephan

Stephan led Florida State to a perfect weekend in recording a pair of victories at home over No. 2 North Carolina and NC State. She recorded the game-winner against North Carolina, scoring on a header off a corner with just 12 seconds remaining in double overtime as the Seminoles defeated the Tar Heels, 3-2, for only the second time in school history and first since 2000. Stephan out-jumped the competition on the far post and found the back of the net from short distance for her second goal of the season and first career game-winner. She also was part of the Seminole backline that held the Tar Heels without a shot in both overtime periods. In a 2-0 win Sunday against NC State, Stephan and the Seminole defense held the Wolfpack to just three shots while not allowing a shot in the second half. With two victories last week, FSU is in sole possession of first place in the ACC with 19 points.
Ryan Rosenbaum
D, Fr., SMU, Washington, D.C.
Rosenbaum scored a 95-yard goal, which ended up being the eventual game-winner, in the Mustangs' 3-2 upset of No. 16 Tulsa on Wednesday night. It was the first collegiate goal and first shot taken by the redshirt freshman defender. Rosenbaum's goal was featured as the No. 2 play on ESPN's SportsCenter, and was featured on ABC Morning News, Yahoo! and other outlets.
